Making Herbal Salve & Sea Kelp

It was requested that I do more on herbs so I thought I'd share a recipe for a salve that can be used for any scrape, cut, bug bite, dry skin or rash. We use it all the time. The first ingredient is Calendula: A lovely yellow flower, most of us are used to seeing during the summer as they are a common garden/container flower. Calendula is a fantastic herb when used as a salve (or a tincture) for treating external skin, muscle or blood vessel disorders such as: All the various cuts and scrapes our hands get, sores, rashes, varicose veins, bruises, cramped/sprained muscles. Studies show this little gem boosts and stimulates the immune system. Something we can all use these days. It actively aids the body in fighting off all kinds of infection. Calendula reduces lymph congestion and reduces swollen lymph glands
Comfrey: This wonderful skin healing herb is only used externally unless it is prescribed by an Herbal Dr. It is toxic internally unless you know what you are doing! But used for a poultice or salve is what it was made for. This beauty helps close the skin and heal it, while inhibiting infection.
Goldenseal: This is a wonderful antibacterial herb to add to a salve. Helps with inflammation and to heal and prevent an infection.
Wormwood: Wonderful for Rheumatism, swellings, sprains, bruises. It helps relieve pain and is antibacterial.
Yarrow: Contains anti-inflammatory and antiseptic oils as well as astringent properties, while the silica helps in repairing damaged or worn out tissues in the body. This makes yarrow a useful fella when applied externally. Useful for cuts, wounds, burns as well as swollen and irritating skin
Here's a good recipe for making a wonderful salve That I'm sure you'll use and love.

3 cups good quality olive oil, (coconut and/or sesame oil can be added with the olive)
~ 1 ounce (about two tablespoons) fresh Comfrey (or 1/2 ounce dried)
~ 1 ounce (about two tablespoons) fresh Calendula (or 1/2 ounce dried)
~ 1 ounce (about two tablespoons) Goldenseal (or 1/2 ounce dried)
~ 1 ounce (about two tablespoons) Wormwood ( or 1/2 ounce dried)
~ 1 ounce (about two tablespoons) Yarrow ( or 1/2 ounce dried)
~ 3/4 cup beeswax
~ Mix herbs and oil in heavy glass jar or bowl. Do not use metal. Put the mixture in the oven at it's lowest setting. 150 to 170 degrees. Stir periodically. Leave in the oven approximately 4 hours. Let it cool a bit so you don't burn yourself.
~ Strain out the oil by pouring through a strainer.
~ Discard herbs and reserve oil.
~ Melt your beeswax in the top of the double boiler.
~ Add the strained oil and stir until completely blended.
~ Pour the mixture into jars or salve tins.
~ Once it is cool, label and date your creation.

Sea Kelp: In this time of prepping I know alot of you folks have bought some iodine tablets but I wanted to mention Sea Kelp which is a very special Protection Food. It contains valuable Iodine, most trace minerals and trace elements as well as a host of vitamins. But because it contains iodine, it will prevent radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid. This is an important thing to add to your diet and get a head start so to speak on the off chance that we have a real situation. Sea Kelp contains Sodium Alginate which reduces the strontium 90 absorption by up to 80%. www.HerbalHealer.com sells a wonderful powder.

Share the info! Pass it on.
Knowledge is Power!
Peace to us All!

Knowledge IS Power - especially with people like you who are so willing to share!
Thank you for sharing the salve recipe - i guess i must order some wormwood and yarrow now!
as for sea kelp - you are dead right! when i was growing up back home in Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia) - whenever we had a cut or an abrasion we climbed the cliff down to the shore (in our backyard) and our Mother rubbed seaweed (kelp) onto our wound after we had kept our wound in the Atlantic ocean for at least 15 minutes. we also drank a lot of kelp tea!
Madame - these posts are awesome - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep up this important work!
