Edible Trees

For all of you on the east coast-did you know that "Adirondack" means tree eaters? I have been researching edible trees and have found a long history of indigenous peoples adding tree parts to their diet. Not just in survival situations either. They added them as a regular part of their diet for the nutrition that trees provide. Interesting huh? Sap, twigs, inner bark, needles. All of these can be added to your diet to add nutrition. Pine for instance is very high in vitamin C. Here is a list of some edible trees: Aspen, Balsam Poplar, White Birch, Two-Needled Pine, Ponderosa Pine, Larches, Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Spruces. I encourage you to check out the links and do some research. If it ever comes to a survival situation, maby you are on the move, on foot, from place to place, it will be good to know what wild food you can eat.
